Where we repair gates around Milwaukee
Gated neighborhoods are rare in the Milwaukee area, so many local gates are commercial. We repair gates at distribution and warehouse sites in Oak Creek and Franklin, manufacturers in the Menomonee Valley and West Allis, and yards and plants in Menomonee Falls and Germantown.
Residential gates are usually private driveway gates on larger properties, such as estates in River Hills and parts of Mequon, plus gated apartment and townhome communities in places like Mequon and Brown Deer. Our national gate repair page explains how each gate type works.
What frost and snow do to gates in Wisconsin
Frost heave is the big one. When wet soil freezes, it expands and lifts the gate posts. A post that's not set deep enough can tilt a little more every winter. The gate starts to sag, scrape the ground or miss its latch.
Snow causes damage of its own. Plows pile snow against fences and gates, bending bottom rails and filling the tracks of sliding gates. Then extreme cold seizes rollers and hinges, especially ones that have rusted from road salt. A gate that has to be forced open in January is usually suffering from all three.

Gate repairs we handle
We re-hang and adjust sagging swing gates, replace hinges, latches and drop rods, and straighten or replace bent frames. On sliding and cantilever gates, we replace rollers and guide wheels, clean and realign tracks, and check the travel end to end.
For heaved posts, we check whether the post can be reset or needs a new, deeper footing. If your gate is motorized and the problem is the operator, keypad or sensors, see automatic gate repair in Milwaukee.
Getting a gate ready before winter
A fall check is the easiest way to avoid a frozen gate in January. We look for posts that have started to lean, rollers and hinges that are already stiff, and tracks with debris that will freeze in place. Lubricant that stays workable in the cold goes on the moving parts, and worn rollers get replaced while the weather is still mild.
It also helps to mark the gate and track edges for whoever plows your lot, so blades and piles stay clear. Gates that go into a Milwaukee winter in good shape are far less likely to need a repair in the middle of a cold snap.
What affects the price of a gate repair?
Price depends on the gate's type, size and weight, the damage, and whether posts, tracks or frames must be replaced. A seized roller on a small sliding gate is simpler than a bent cantilever gate at a truck yard. We'll inspect it and give you the price first.
