How has Mount Juliet's growth changed its garages?
Mount Juliet incorporated as a city in 1972 and grew from 23,671 people in 2010 to 39,289 in 2020. Its subdivisions span three decades. Willoughby Station, with more than 800 homes, went up mostly in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Kelsey Glen, built by The Jones Company from about 2009 to 2021, leans toward bigger garages: in one set of recent sales, 15 of 22 homes had three-car garages.
A three-car garage usually means two or three doors, each with its own springs and opener, and often one taller or wider bay for a truck or trailer. Those doors were installed together, so when one spring breaks, the others may not be far behind. In the older Willoughby Station homes, many doors are on their original track with second-generation springs and openers.
How did the March 2020 tornado affect Mount Juliet garage doors?
It hit the city hard. The National Weather Service rated the March 3, 2020 tornado EF-3, with peak winds of 165 mph along a path of about 60 miles. In Mount Juliet it tore through areas along Chandler Road, Triple Crown Parkway, Catalpa Drive, and Clearview Drive, and West Wilson Middle School and Stoner Creek Elementary had to be rebuilt. Tractor-trailers were blown across I-40. They were the first tornado deaths in Wilson County since 1944.
Wind pressure can push a garage door in, buckle its sections, and tear the track off the wall. Many homes in the path got new doors in the rebuild, while neighbors kept older doors that took a lighter hit. If a section is creased or a strut is bent, our garage door panel replacement page explains when a single section can be replaced instead of the whole door.

Why do garage springs break in Mount Juliet's cold snaps?
Cold is hard on steel that's already worn. In January 2024, Middle Tennessee got about 8 inches of snow, and Mount Juliet dropped to 12 degrees below zero on January 17. Cold stiffens grease, makes metal contract, and puts extra stress on a spring that's near the end of its cycle life, so a break often shows up on the first frigid morning.
A broken spring usually announces itself with a loud bang, and then the door won't lift or the opener strains and stops. Don't try to lift it with the opener, and don't adjust or unwind the spring yourself. Our broken spring repair page explains how a technician replaces springs and checks the cables and drums.
What should Del Webb Lake Providence owners know about openers?
Del Webb Lake Providence is a gated, 55-and-over community of about 1,029 homes built roughly from 2006 to 2015, and most of its homes are single-story. That puts many of its original openers at 10 to 20 years old, and in a single-story home, the garage is often right next to the kitchen or a bedroom.
When an older opener needs replacing, a few features earn their keep: a quiet belt drive, battery backup for outages, a wireless keypad so no one gets locked out, and a timer that closes the door if it's left open. Some owners consider installing an opener themselves. Our post on whether you can replace a garage door opener yourself explains where that goes wrong, especially with spring tension and safety sensors.

Do you service distribution centers and stores along I-40?
Yes. Wilson County has become a distribution hub. The city's list of top employers in the county includes an Under Armour distribution center with about 1,500 workers, Amazon with more than 1,000, CEVA Logistics, and FedEx. In Mount Juliet itself, Providence Marketplace has about 830,000 square feet of retail on 104 acres.
Warehouses and big stores depend on dock doors, rolling doors, and high-cycle sectional doors. Our commercial garage door repair page covers the doors, operators, and safety devices we work on for businesses.
