Who uses gates around Cleveland?
Gates are less common at Cleveland homes than in warmer, newer metros. Many local gates guard commercial and industrial sites: equipment yards, distribution lots in Euclid, Bedford Heights and Twinsburg, plants in Solon and the industrial parks off I-71 in Strongsville. Older industrial properties near the Flats and the Port of Cleveland also rely on fencing and gates.
On the residential side, you'll find gates on large-lot properties and at a handful of gated enclaves, such as Sterling Lakes in Pepper Pike and Georgetown of Lyndhurst. Our national gate repair page covers the basics for every type.
How winter damages gates in Northeast Ohio
Water gets into the soil around gate posts, freezes and expands, then thaws again. Over many cycles that pushes posts out of plumb. A gate that swung freely in summer starts to drag or won't latch. Sliding gates get bent when the track rises or settles unevenly.
Snowplows add their own damage. Plowed snow piles up against gates and fences, bends bottom rails and buries the tracks on sliding gates. Then salt from the lot and the street rusts hinges, rollers and latches. A gate that grinds or sticks in February often has more than one of these problems at once.

Common gate repairs we handle
We re-hang sagging swing gates, replace worn hinges and latches, straighten or replace bent frames, and replace rollers and guide wheels on sliding and cantilever gates. On sliding gates, we clean and realign the track and check the gate's travel end to end.
When a post has heaved, we look at whether it can be reset or needs replacing. Posts set below the frost line hold up better over Cleveland winters. If your gate is motorized and the problem is the operator, keypad or sensors, see automatic gate repair in Cleveland.
Repair or replace an aging gate?
Some gates at older industrial sites in Cleveland have been patched for decades. Hinges are welded on, posts are leaning, and salt has rusted through the bottom rail. At some point, another repair just buys one more winter.
We look at the frame, the posts and the moving parts as a whole. If the frame is solid and the posts can be reset, a repair usually makes sense. If rust has eaten through structural members, or the gate no longer fits how trucks use the site, we'll say so and price a replacement through gate installation in Cleveland. You decide, with both numbers in front of you.
What affects the price of a gate repair?
Price depends on the gate type, size and weight, the damage, and whether posts, tracks or frames need replacing. A bent commercial cantilever gate is a bigger job than a new latch on a pedestrian gate. We'll inspect it and give you a price first.
